Tri-State Chapter Chronology
1968 - Bob Phillips, a transfer student from Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne,
starts organizing an Alpha Epsilon Pi group on the Tri-State campus.
1969 - Original members come together and rent "the farmhouse" at 718 West Prospect starting in
the fall.
1970 - AEPi colony officially established in the spring with its first initiation at Indiana
Tech. Acacia moves out of property at 506 S. College, and AEPi brothers start renting it from the
college. Chemistry professor Dr. Chester Pinkham begins serving as advisor.
1972 - AEPi holds its first pig roast using a barbecue spit donated by Skip Hamilton, proprietor
of Skip's Lounge and a local supporter of the fraternity. The pig roast has since become our longest
running tradition.
1975 - Tri-State College changes its name to Tri-State University.
1981 - AEPi colony disbands and remaining members adopt the name "Nu Pi" and begin operating as a
local fraternity.
1985 - Nu Pi becomes an interest group of Triangle Fraternity. Dr. Larry Samuelson begins serving
as advisor.
1986 - Triangle colony officially established with first pledge class initiated at the Armour
chapter on December 6, 1986.
1987 - Second Triangle pledge class initiated at the Purdue chapter. University sells house at
College and Prospect. New owner levels the Annex and renovates main house for his family.
1988 - Most brothers move into newly remodeled Unit E dorm (formerly Phi Kappa Theta) at the
corner of Park and Kinney. House meetings are held in Unit E.
1989 - Third Triangle pledge class initiated at Toledo chapter in the winter.
Tri-State receives
Triangle charter on April 15, 1989. Reception held at Zollner Clubhouse. In the fall, some brothers
move into a house at the corner of Park and Darling Streets and some stay in Unit E. The first issue
of the alumni newsletter, Sine of the Times, gets mailed to alumni.
1990 - Sixteen brothers initiated in most successful recruiting year ever.
1993 - Triangle buys house at 409 S. College from Phi Sigma Sigma sorority. (The house was one of
two owned by Sigma Phi Delta in the '70s, and it changed owners a few times in the '80s.) Tri-State
chapter adds spinning base to Rattle III.
1997 - Mechanical engineering professor Dr. John Callister begins serving as advisor.
1998 - Tri-State University switches from quarters to semesters starting in the fall.
1999 - Fall Pig Roast is replaced with Fall Event in conjunction with TSU Homecoming. Pig Roast
continues to be held in the spring.
2000 - First Jeff Williams Memorial Scholarship awarded in the spring. Mr. Mike Biegas begins
serving as advisor.
2004 - TSU takes third place in Chapter Performance Award (CPA) ranking among all triangle
chapters, its highest ranking to date.
